China-based Xiaomi is expected to release a consumer drone with a 350 mm rotor-to-rotor distance, according to Marbridge Consulting.
The report noted that Xiaomi could announced its drone at the same time the company reveals its Mi 5 smartphone. The drone is expected to be an entry-level aerial photography drone and could also feature GPS technology and altitude holding technologies.
The drone is reportedly being developed by Xiaomi's Beijing-based subsidiary FIMI Technologies and will be sold through Xiaomi's distribution and marketing channels. It will be an entry-level aerial photography drone with possible GPS and altitude holding technologies, but it is not expected to have a pan and tilt head. The drone will likely carry a simple camera in place of an action camera.

Chinese Android device maker Xiaomi will reportedly release a consumer drone with a 350 mm rotor-to-rotor distance, according to a leaked picture and schematic obtained by Chinese media.
Xiaomi may formally announce the drone at its Mi 5 smartphone product launch event on February 24, and the drone may be priced as low as RMB 699.

A source at FIMI Technologies said that the drone will be released soon, and a source at Xiaomi said that the Xiaomi drone has already entered mass production with an initial run of 10,000 units.

The drone was developed by a team at Rutgers University and funded by a grant from the Office of Naval Research. The Naviator is a drone capable of flying in the air and maneuvering through water, as well as switching seamlessly from one to the other. 
With the assistance of a grant by the Office of Naval Research (USA), engineering students at Rutgers University in New Jersey developed a drone that can fly through the air, submerge underwater, travel through the water, then surface and return to the sky again. It's a remarkable achievement, as most amphibious vehicles cannot return to a previous environment once they've left it.

The team behind the Naviator will improve on their design with more sensors and capability, including increasing its maximum payload to make the drone more useful in practical situations.

drones like this one could serve a wide variety of purposes. These amphibious drones could inspect bridges and provide information to assess oil spills. More importantly, they could advance naval warfare capabilities. Prof. Javier Diez explains:
“Mines are probably the biggest problem for the Navy,” said Diez. “They need to map where mines are. Now there are a lot of false positives. This could be a better technology to rapidly investigate these potential threats.”
And in naval warfare, a fleet of drones could be stationed out of sight in an underwater base or on a submarine. The drones could emerge quickly from the depths, get a quick glimpse of enemy ship deployments, and then hide again.
